Week 22 - Spaghetti Squash

So, last Friday I hit the 22 week mark (2 weeks beyond the half-way mark)! Hooray!

Little Baby Boy Carr is now the size of a spaghetti squash and almost 1 pound (and about 11 inches long). The little guy is starting to look like a miniature newborn. I'm feeling more pregnant per se and feel more connected to the baby now that I know he is a little boy. When I'm in stores I now notice the "boy" section. We are so excited. This will be an entire new world for all of us (the girls and for Peter - who grew up with all sisters).

So, I was telling my mom today that our girls change outfits multiple times a day (and not because they spilled something). After each new activity or part of their day they want to change into something different. I was telling her that I'm trying to curb this pattern (secretly until they are doing the laundry themselves and realize that 5 little outfits a day leads to lots of laundry). My mom was pretty funny when I told her this - as she said that I should let them change their oufits as often as they would like - as I shouldn't be stiffling their creative style and energy. She may have a point (but I'm sticking to my guns on limiting the outfit changes until my my mom comes down and helps with laundry!). I don't mind them playing dress up and going through all the outfits (in the dress up trunk) but changing "real" outfits several times a day leaves our washer running all day long! Maybe I'll pull the "we need to be more GREEN" idea with them (and talk about all the water we will be saving!).

And then there is always the fun topic of letting your child chose his/her own clothing. Umm, that always brings me back to the dreadful picture of me as a tear stained 12 year old standing next to my two sisters in matching dresses for a picture (thanks MOM!).

My Latest Obsessions

Okay, so if you were talking with me yesterday goldfish crackers would have made my "favorite" list. In between various pick up and drop offs with the girls I devoured a small bag of those pepperridge farm goldfish crackers. I'm laughing as I have NEVER really enjoyed them before (ha - seems as though baby boy Carr liked them!).
So, I just saw in Daily Candy Kids that Hello Lucky! one of my favorite letterpress stationery companies just launched baby announcements - so fun! Here is an adorable little monkey card to announce a boy - they use this monkey in their everyday cards too. I like this simple cross hatch one as well. Unfortunately, the pics of these don't do them justice because you have to feel and see them in person (to really appreciate the letterpress)!

Check out these adorable hair goodies for little girlies from Sophie and Lili - they kind of have an old school feel to them. They also have cute dolls that you can customize. Enter CANDYDEAL when you check out and save 25% until the end of the month (via Daily Candy).

I will have to remember these Kids Artwork Adhesive Stickers from Land of Nod when we move back into our house (btw, this weekend we are moving to a rental and renovating for a minimum of 4 months!!!). The girls always want to display their latest artwork - this is a nice way to create a rotating art gallery in your entryway (using reusable frame corners that stick to walls without damaging and come with coordinating nameplates so kiddos can title their art). Win win situation for the artists (kids) and for the parents!

Blue BLUE BLUE

OMG, I am beyond excited that we are having a LITTLE BOY. Yesterday at the big 20 week ultrasound the technician asked us if we wanted to know...and moments later she typed on the screen "BOY" (and pointed to the anatomy that distinguishes him from a girl). Last night we sat the girls down after dinner and had them make their guesses. They both guessed a boy! Hilarious, as just weeks earlier Margaret was saving clothes of hers that were too small in anticipation of a little sister.

So, time to think BLUE, whales, dinosaurs, mud and all things BOY. Love it. This will be hilarious and such a fun new experience because I grew up w/all sisters and have a mom that is quite girlie and into clothes/design and then I married Peter who grew up with 3 sisters and has always had swarms of girl friends. Fighting over outfits and "borrowing" clothes (only for your sister to never see that shirt again) are "normal" to me. Things like Pee-pee Teepees are SO FOREIGN to me (ummm, check out the names of these Teepees - pretty hilarious - weiner dog and lil monkey). And OMG, my mom who is calling him the little cowboy (as she lives in AZ) will love these Wild West ones.

Wow, you definitely learn something new everyday. Here is a poem I found when checking out the Pee-pee Teepees...

Changing a baby girl is not all glitz and glory;
Changing a baby boy is another horror story.
You hold his feet with one hand,
and the diaper with the other hand;
The whole time praying,
'Please don't pee on your mother.'

Week 20 - A Banana & the HALFWAY MARK

HOORAY - THE BIG HALFWAY MARK has arrived!
I'm 20 WEEKS AS OF TODAY!

So, little Baby Carr is now the size of a Banana - he/she is getting bigger (up a few ounces from last week). According to BabyCenter he/she weights about 10 1/2 ounces and about 6 1/2 inches from head to bottom (but wowswer - about 10 inches from head to heel!). From this point on measurements are taken from the top of BC's head to his/her bottom.

And MONDAY, we are finding out (if our little guy/gal cooperates) if we are having a girl or a boy. I tried so hard to wait out the surprise - but we officially decided to find out at our big ultrasound on Monday! It will be nice to finally call little "BC" a HIM OR HER! So, on Tuesday I will be sporting either PINK or BLUE in honor of little "BC."

The above pic was taken last night - as I haven't seen many of our out of town friends or family members since our wedding - and it is due time to show them a pic of my GROWING BELLY! I'm sporting my fave layering long sleeve tee from Target. The CPW (cost per wear) on these tees will soon be down to quarters or pennies!

Week 19 - A Large Heirloom Tomato

So, this past Friday I hit the 19th week mark and Baby Carr is now the size of a large Heirloom Tomato. My pregnancy bible, BabyCenter, tells me that little "BC" now weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches (wow, seems like a jump from the week before) head to bottom. The hair on your scalp is sprouting (oh, I'm so curious about your hair, will you have my curly locks or Daddy's hair or something totally in between?). LOL, as I had stick straight hair (yet still thick) until I was 12 or 13 when OMG my hair exploded into a head of ringlets / waves / craziness. The ringlets have relaxed a bit for now but there were some years of wild hair (total 80s).

Okay, little "BC," I started to digress about my own hair ups and downs - ha. Back to you little one. This is a crucial time for sensory development: your brain is designating areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision and touch. Some research suggests that you may be able to hear my voice now, which is good to know since your sisters (as well as your Dad and I) have been talking to you since the beginning...at least now I know you can possibly hear what we're saying! Oh, and I hope you like the Black Eyed Peas song I Gotta Feeling because your soon to be sister Cate dances to it everyday (we have it on repeat for her!).

Side note, little "BC," forgive me as sometimes this "in between" phase of being pregnant but not really feeling/looking totally pregnant has been interesting and challenging at times (and you have probably heard me talk about my wardrobe a bit..."Ummm, what to wear, things aren't fitting like they used to."). So, bottom line, little "BC" nothing against you my dear, just struggling to fit into things these days!!!  Hooray to the Liz Lange Layering Tee from Target - you have been my daily staple!

Week 18 - A bell pepper

So, little Baby Carr is now the size of a Bell Pepper. LOL - as I have been eating bell peppers like one eats an apple ever since being pregnant (one of my cravings).

I cannot believe it. We're almost officially at the HALF WAY mark - so exciting! Little Baby Carr is about 5 1/2 inches long and he/she weights almost 7 ounces. I loved reading that "BC" is busy flexing his/her arms and legs

We are super excited for the big 2nd trimester ultrasound - and I need to go into this appointment knowing whether or not we want to find out the sex. I keep going back and forth on this...!
